Midwifery Care: Informed Choice and the Option of Homebirth
Midwifery has recently celebrated it's 10th year as a profession in British Columbia and still many people are not aware that it is a care option that is covered by the Ministry of Health. Midwives offer care to women and their babies from conception to 6 weeks postpartum. Through in depth discussions of their care options, women arrive at informed choices during their pregnancy, birth and postpartum. One of these options is where a woman wishes to deliver her baby. Homebirth and arriving at the decision that best suits you and your family is the topic of this presentation.

Amy Kelly is a midwife who has recently experienced birth from the other side of the fence with the homebirth of her son in January 2009. She has worked in the Vancouver area with privileges at BC Women's Hospital, St Paul's Hospital and Burnaby General. She currently resides in the Comox Valley where she and Joanne Daviau have created Plum Midwifery.
